Description

Chris Davis: Anaphylaxis after Bee Sting is one of ten scenarios in the Advanced Life Support (ALS) scenario set. The ALS set contains ten scenarios written by HealthCare Simulation South Carolina (HCSSC) based on VitalSim® scenarios distributed with the original Laerdal ALS simulator. The written materials provided by Laerdal for use with the original VitalSim® scenarios remain compatible with these updated scenarios. The ALS scenario set has been upgraded, not only to run on the more advanced simulator platforms; each has been re-designed to take advantage of multimedia and programming capabilities to provide formative and summative assessment with structured feedback for participants.

The scenarios within the ALS set include:

Scenario 1. Steve Jenson: Respiratory arrest due to opiate overdose
Scenario 2. Shawn Hillard: Tension pneumothorax
Scenario 3. Albert Sheridan: Severe asthma
Scenario 4. Jonathan Brasher: Tricyclic antidepressant overdose
Scenario 5. Dan Roden: Pulseless cardiac arrest (VF)
Scenario 6. Chris Davis: Anaphylaxis after bee sting
Scenario 7. Ernest Higgins: Pulseless electrical activity (PEA) hypovolemia
Scenario 8. Mary Alden: Stroke (Ischemic)
Scenario 9. Abraham Vermont: Symptomatic wide complex tachycardia (VT)
Scenario 10. Mark Pascually: Submersion with hypothermia

The scenarios in the ALS set have been developed for several of the Laerdal software platforms. Each version takes full advantage of Laerdal programming capabilities. As a result, the scenarios are easily run from a well-structured menu. Debriefing logs include color-coded check marks to provide easy-to follow, objective-based debriefing guides. In addition, multimedia is embedded throughout the scenarios to provide enhanced fidelity and "just-in-time" participant feedback.

All scenarios in this set can be found in SimStore™. Search for HealthCare Simulation South Carolina or Laerdal ALS. HCSSC scenarios are programmed to support proven methods for objective-based feedback and Practical Simulation.
