Additional Information

Description

The HealthCare Simulation South Carolina (HCSSC) Urinary Catheterization Male scenario is designed to provide formative or summative assessment and structured feedback for participants inserting a urinary catheter in a male patient. It is one of two urinary catheter insertions scenarios provided by HCSSC*.

1. Urinary Cath Procedure Female
2. Urinary Cath Procedure Male

The Urinary Catheterization Male scenario presents a 62-year-old male with a history of insulin dependent diabetes with an inability to urinate and a distended bladder. Placement of a catheter to drain the bladder is ordered.

Both Urinary Catheterization scenarios have been developed for several software platforms. Each version of the scenario takes full advantage of Laerdal programming capabilities. As a result, the scenarios are easily run from a well-structured menu. Debriefing logs include color-coded check marks to provide easy-to follow, objective-based debriefing guides. These scenarios also include automatic grading, with the number and percentage of correct procedural steps appearing in the debrief log.

*Both scenarios can be found in SimStore™. HCSSC scenarios are programmed to support proven methods for objective-based feedback and Practical Simulation. For more information about HCSSC scenarios and courses, and how to achieve Practical Simulation visit the HCSSC website at www.healthcaresimulationsc.com/simstore.
