Description
This scenario presents a 55-year-old man who was admitted last evening after a stroke with mild left hemiplegia. The students are expected to complete a focused, neurologic assessment and identify safety considerations for a patient with a stroke, including fall risk. The students are also expected to administer morning medications and to take proper action when the patient is unexpectedly choking by implementing safety precautions and reporting the incident to the provider.
The scenario addresses learning objectives that focus on fundamental
nursing care concepts and encourage the participants to assess and manage the
patient, identify and prioritize basic patient problems, and perform key
interventions for safe and effective patient care.
